The International Research Training Group (IRTG) 2172 “PRoTECT: Plant Responses To Eliminate Critical Threats” (Speaker: Prof. Dr. Ivo Feussner) offers positions at the Georg-August-University Goettingen for 12 Ph.D. candidates in the field of plant-pathogen interactions beginning at June 1st, 2019. The salary is in accordance with the German public service salary scale (65% E13 TV-L) for up to three years.
The IRTG 2172 is a DFG-funded collaborative PhD program between the Georg-August-University (Goettingen, Germany) and the University of British Columbia (Vancouver, Canada), and utilizes a broad range of plant-pathogen interaction model systems. Major scientific goal of the IRTG is to elucidate plant defense mechanisms and pathogen virulence strategies that are operational in different cellular and extracellular compartments and at different spatial scales. The IRTG offers an excellent experimental infrastructure in an international and interdisciplinary research environment. The broad-based PhD training program will enable the PhD candidates to address questions in plant-pathogen interactions at a system-wide level and offers many opportunities for the improvement of scientific and personal skills.
Candidates should fulfill the following requirements:
- A very good M.Sc. degree (or equivalent) in biology, biochemistry, microbiology, agriculture, forestry or similar field
- A strong background in one of the biological disciplines covered by the IRTG (molecular cell biology, biochemistry, genetics)
- Very good English skills (written and spoken)
- High motivation to spend part of the PhD time (at least 6 months) at UBC in Vancouver
